The Best Sandwich in the World

IMHO…the best sandwich in the world is the BLTA…or sometimes called the California BLT.

Not to dwell on the subject…but, simply put…use ripe summer tomatoes, firm ripe avocados, and Applewood smoked bacon. We all have our personal way to build the sandwich…mine method is below. For best results (and better photos), build the sandwich leaving off the avocado. Slice the sandwich in half, then add the avocado.

Make sure you lightly salt and pepper your tomatoes! I chose to mash the avocados rather than slice.

The ingredients below are for one large rustic style bread sandwich.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large slices of rustic style sourdough bread
  • Good mayonnaise (I use Best Foods)
  • Iceberg lettuce
  • Large ripe tomatoe
  • 2 medium ripe avocaados
  • 4 thick slices of Applewood smoked bacon
  • Kosher salt and black pepper

Directions:

1 – Cook the bacon crisp. Drain on paper towel.

2 – Optional: Mash the avocados. Season with salt and white pepper. Add a little lime juice.

3 – Lightly toast the bread.

4 – Build the sandwich as follows, top to bottom:

  • Toasted bread
  • Mayonnaise
  • Avocado (mashed if you wish)
  • Crispy bacon
  • Iceberg lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Mayonnaise
  • Toasted bread
